Progress Update 2022/9/29


Hello! It's been two months since we released the demo for Breathless Winds, and we want to give everyone a little update on where we're at with the project and how things are progressing.


New promotional art! The logo for Breathless Winds has also been changed - this iteration is more compact and should be more readable.

We've continued to work on the game's various routes since the demo released. The game's introductory chapter was actually written almost a year ago, and so a lot of work had already gone into the rest of the game prior to the demo being completed.

The script of Gallardia's route is currently finished at over 50,000 words-- overshooting the word goal a bit, but it's currently in editing. This route was in progress before the demo was posted, so not all routes will be finished this quickly, unfortunately. Once the script is edited, Doris will implement it into Ren'py with the proper assets.

As I work on editing Gallardia's route, I've also been working on the script for Lantana's route. It's currently at about 20,000 words. Full outlines are complete for the other two routes, meaning they'll be simple to start when the time comes.

Once Lantana's route is eventually finished (this being several weeks or months down the line), I'll move on to Rue's, and finally Valerian's. I've chosen to write them in this order because of 'proximity'. Gallardia's route is closest to Two Elk Island, focusing the most on the island itself, characters who live there, and certain aspects of Poppy's history compared to other routes. This made it the perfect route to begin writing the game, learn as I go, and establish a lot of conventions about the setting. Lantana's route is a little 'further'- she's still a member of Two Elk Island, but much of her route focuses on her disappearance and mystical aspects that are hidden from the island. Rue's route is further than that, because Rue isolates herself from the villagers on Two Elk Island and very little of her story overlaps with the other routes. Valerian's route is the 'furthest', as he's from Castle Island and a portion of his route will take place apart from Two Elk Island entirely.


Doris has been working on completing more of the game's assets, including both background art, sprites for side characters, and illustrated CGs. Almost every piece of art that will fit into the finished game has been concepted! We're both very happy with our progress and excited for the future of the project.
